Digital BW, The Print

You can bring up any tones you want. You adjust the red, green, and blue
tones the way you want them to appear in monochrome. You'd use lots of
red if you want a black sky, you'd use mainly the green if you wanted to
lighten foilage. You can make selections and use any filter (RGor B) to
enhance it. You have none of these controls by just desaturating an
image. Be sure you learn how the channel mixer works, you'll never just
desaturate again! It's like having an infinite variety of colored
filters for your camera, only now you don't need filters on your camera,
you have them in photoshop. (assuming you are shooting your originals in
color, but want black and white from them).
