This is my equipment Scanner - Epson 2450 Photo Printer - Epson Stylus Photo 1280 TWAIN - Silverfast Ai version 5 with NegaFix. Have Calibrated with the color card from Silverfast and supremely satisfied with scan to screen to print in color. Paper - Epson Heavyweight Matte and have the ICC file to match for this paper and my printer. I started with some Black and White negatives. The negatives showed Kodak TMX 5052. I am a newbie here, as I am sure will show, but want to know the best steps to take to get a great B&W print in Duotone. NegaFix doesn't show this particular film. I know, somewhat, the Lab method and channel mixer monochrome method of obtaining a grayscale from color. I then like the Pantone black and brown combo on Photoshop 6, which gives me really great results except for one problem. I get a minute color bleed through on the print when starting with a B&W neg, which looks like a teal color, in areas that have a fairly high contrast, especially on a face. I hate to admit that I initially scanned using 48 to 24 bit color using the "other" settings on NegaFix. I then use either Lab or channel mixer monochrome to get to Duotone and still get exact same bleed. Should one start using a B&W scan and then convert to RGB or what method is best? Okay, maybe a stupid question. Not used to doing B&W negatives but really want to correct this problem. Starting to learn how to use Duotone and want to graduate to Tri and Quad but want to go step by step. Could I get different opinions in a step by step method on starting with a B&W neg or is this partially an equipment problem. Had no problem at all with color negs to Duotone and printing with same Pantone combo. Sorry this is so long.
