I would say that, as ink on paper, it definitely is extended. And this would be from a single unmanipulated file simply by the use of inks, and this is only a very small and oversimplified part of the real overall pictue. I've been told that the tonal extension achieved by that simple experiment is technically noise, but there we are, and it was done by adding no new "levels" to the actual file.
