Tom, I am fortunate to have a local store called Tap Plastics that cuts it to size for me. The stuff I get from them is made by Cyro Industries and is called Acrylite AR and is mar resistant on one side. What I do is lay out some soft paper towel on a table. First I pull the covering off the mar resistant side, lay it down and clean it with a mixture of alcohol and distilled water or just distilled water using non-scratching wipes I buy with the plastic. I then turn it over and repeat the cleaning process and immediately place the matted photo face down on the clean plastic and get it into the frame. Do not use glass cleaner. Do not use a brush. Make sure the mounted photo is clean and dust free. An anti static cloth can help on the plastic if it doesn't shed lint. Sometimes I have to take the assembly apart to get a piece of dust I missed but it is not much harder to work with than glass. Once it is all together everything is fine. You do need to be more careful transporting them as a sharp object can cause a scratch where it wouldn't on glass. On the wall in normal use I have had no problems. It is a bit more work but the optical clarity is well worth it. You also don't have to worry about cutting yourself or having the photo damaged if the glass breaks, a real plus here in earthquake country.
