RE: [Digital BW] epson 2200 - how's it going?

2002-09-08 by Andrew Biggs

Here is my quick take on my new 2200, but keep in mind, I have been
lurking here for quite a while, but never printing on my own piezo
setup. I chose to forego that investment, and dove straight in with the
2200. If it ultimately does not work out, I can still do a piezo setup.

My first b&w prints were acceptable, but not *dream* prints. Since I am
using the supplied profiles, I really need to create some of my own. As
I live in the US, the grey balancer software was not included, which
makes a neutral print tricky. My first prints are on the cool side,
which I like, but I have no control over it.

Toning aside, the prints are absent of any banding in the highlights.
None in the mids, either. And the blacks aren't that black, but I
haven't ventured out and bought the matte black inkset yet, either. That
is something I will be doing later today. The shadows have nice
separation of tones, which I am very pleased with.

This is only my third day with the printer, and I have much hope with
the new ImagePrint 5 RIP. If it delivers what Andrew Rodney claims to
have seen, then this can be one helluva printer. If not, it will only
see my color work, and I will get an additional 1280/piezo/MIS setup.

any of you who have purchased and set up a 2200: how is it
going? how do
you like it? are you happy with your purchase? are you happy
with the b/w
results? the color results? do the b/w prints compare to MIS
or piezo quad
	inksets?

	thanks
