Andy, Sorry for the length of time getting back...haven't gotten my e-mail in several days. You want a non-buffered board for any photo--B&W or color. The buffered board is mainly for textiles; fabrics and such. Good luck with the show. Generally, for window matts and the matt your photo is mounted to I would stick with a 100% rag board similar to Light Impressions's Westminster Rag. I use the Bright White for B&W images. If you can get away with standard sizes and openings, they offer a pre-made package consisting of a 4-ply window matt taped (with linen tape, of course) to a 2-ply backing board. I would not recommend this set up, however, for anything over A3 in size. For 13x19, and above, I use foam core backing boards with a 4-ply window matt. The Nielsen metal frames are nice and, also, affordable. For "glass" I would recommend OP-3 acyrlic which is claimed to filter 98% of UV. Recently, I went on a hunt for this material based on a message posted by Martin a few weeks back. He recommended Tap Plastics, onlbut they have stores in CA,y, and do not ship flat sheet acrylic. If you live near one of their stores, you're all set. Visit www.tapplastics.com for information and to decide what you want before going to the store. Otherwise, you will have to do what I did...call around to find a distributor in your area that can get OP-3 material and who provides custom cuts. You will probably have to buy a 4x8 foot sheet, but the savings is incredible. In my case, I was looking for 22x28 sheets for framing 13x19 inkjet prints. Light Impressions charges $38.95 US per; I can get the same thing through a local distributor for $11.83 US per. Money in my pocket ALWAYS works for me! :-) Hope this helps.
