i have a GR-1S. i LOVE it. problem is if it breaks you are SOL. Ricoh exited the film camera business in the US around 3 years ago, and parts and repair technicians are very difficult to find. mine broke and i worked very hard to find a guy who said he specialized in fixing Ricoh film cameras, after paying him $125 it's still broken. point and shoot cameras have a lot of tiny moving parts packed into a small space, if you spend a few hundred bucks you will want to be able to get it fixed. i also have an olympus stylus and a stylus epic. they're great, but not as good as the GR-1S. i know a bunch of people with yashica T-4s. they are also great. i understand that there's a high-profile photogapher for Guess jeans that uses the yashica T-4 exclusively. the whole rest of the industry is using huge medium format gear, and this guy's got ten T-4s that he lines up on a table and runs around shooting. it's a great camera, and if i had to do it again, it's probably the one i'd go with. you can get 3 of them for the price of a GR1. good luck.
