Steve, I had the same frustrations, and my response was to work with a software developer to solve the problem. After testing scores of lenses, measuring actual barreling and pincushioning, we came up with software that does the correction. This is not based on a simple spherical correction. The software will actually choose the best of over 100 correction curves, and interpolate between existing curves if necessary. THe software also helps with perspective distortion. The product has been out for 2 years, has been well reviewed. It is interesting that an Australian company just recently came out with a less sophisticated version of the same thing for triple the price of Lensdoc. I am not inclined to use this forum for advertising, but I believe this is the best solution for your specific problem.
