RE: [Digital BW] Re: Anybody using Photo Rag w. Epson 2200 (without a custom profile)?

2002-10-10 by Andrew Biggs

I spoke with ColorByte a few weeks ago, and they confirmed that the
profiling is free. I didn't know about the matte black ink problems,
though.

I really should call and get a trial version to work with.....

	Hi Andrew B,

The $500 yearly service contract is not a rumor, it's on the
Colorbyte website. The website does NOT mention getting profiles made as
part of the contract - as near as I can tell, that is a rumor (hopefully
a true one).

In any case, it has been reported (in this group, I think) that
Colorbyte cannot profile the matte black ink the 2200 at this time.

You can get a free demo version of ImagePrint for the 2200 and
assess the user interface (and the output) for yourself.

That is precicely why some people are arguing for purchasing
ImagePrint,
since they claim to do free profiles for you, if they don't
already have
one in place. The software is $500, but the rumor is that this
is a
yearly fee, which puts the software out of my range. If that
was a one
time fee, I would consider it, as some people are having good
success
with it, both for b&w and color prints. But I also hear the
interface is
pretty clunky. I am in the software consulting business, and I
have a
very low threshold for cruddy interfaces and workarounds.

	  $.02
