[Digital BW] Re: another ink option

2001-09-10 by Tony Caltabiano

Hello all,
Well, I have read everyone's comments about this subject, and you all
have a lot of good points, and I agree completely with what the
general feelings seem to be.
Now, in light of all that here comes the part I am almost terrified to
say on this list. I am a dealer for indelible inks.
No, this is not an attempt to soft spam, or sell any ink. Here is
where I am coming from:
1. first and absolutely most important, I am an artist like everyone
else on this list. I have been for the last 32 years of my life. I
have been an ink dealer for 2 days.
2. Like a lot of people on this list, I haven't found the the perfect
ink to match my oil paintings, my photographs, or whatever I have in
my head. Is this new ink the answer we have been looking for? Hell
if I know! I saw the ink, talked to the guys who makaes it, and
decided it was better than what I was using (fotonics for color), and
using up Cone for BW.
3. I have coughed up the money, and the ink will be in my 9000 this
week. Hopefully within a couple more weeks I will have a color CIS
system in my 890, and some sort of quads in my 1160. I am a user, I
have invested in this, and I can be a gunnea pig and share my
experiences.
4. If this ink is lousy stuff, I will be more than happy to tell you
all, as I hate salesmen who don't deliver, I don't want to be in
leaque with them. My investment in this ink is less than that of
Cone's system, so I've lost money before on promises that don't
deliver.
5. I have a spectrocam and profiler pro. I can make profiles for
paper/ink combo's. I will provide them free for anyone who wants
them. As for curves for BW I can make those too, but I am nowhere as
good as Paul Roark is at it, or others, but whatever I come up with,
you all are welcome to it.
6. All I ask in return is that I get respect as a fellow artist, not
a spammer. If you want to ask me a question on this stuff go for it.
I will give you the best answer I can. If you want to see samples
(once I get established) I would be happy to provide them.
7. I agree this list should be off limits to any spam or sales
pitches. I will stick to that. I am a dealer not to get rich, just
in hopes I can quit my weekend job as a picture framer!
8. In the spirit of this group I would hope you all keep an open
mind.
9. If anybody has read my gushing statements about this ink on the
inkoptions list, it wasn't a sales pitch, I really liked the stuff.
I'm an artist, I'm allowed to get excited over pretty colors!
10. I hope this message diffuses a little of the negative tone the
list has toward this ink. I have absolutely no input whatsoever to
the way they make the ink, package the ink, sell the ink (except for
me) or run the company at all. Since none of the other users have
stepped up to the chopping block, I thought I would. It looks like a
good ink, and I think it has just had a rough start.

regards,

Tony
