Hi Joel- Where do you teach? We have a similar problem, currently using 4000 dpi Polaroid Sprintscan 35mm and Epson 2450's (2400 dpi for 35, 120 and 4x5). The 2450 is not equal to the 4000 dpi Polaroid or Nikon, but not too shabby on 35 if you don't need 13x19 or bigger. It also allows batch scanning 12 frames 35mm at once. The Silverfast software is great for color negs. It is about to be replaced in January by a 3200 dpi version that should do the trick. Claimed to be much faster too, which makes a difference with multiple users. Probably $500 though.
