Digital BW, The Print

Jerry, you don't own a D30 so I can only guess that it doesn't some how have all the bells and whistles you are looking for in a "pro" camera.  

As a matter of fact though, professional photographers are using the D30 extensively and producing great results.  It really is a wonderful tool in the right hands....and the quality of images is dependent on the skill of the user (like most things).  I just read today a post from a Nikon D1 owner who bought the D30 because he was impressed with the "quality" of the images it produces...even over the D1.  

The D30 has excellent build quality and has more features than most people can use or need (like most of today's electronics).  Coupled with Canon L series lenses or even a $85 50mm f1.8, this camera is capable of producing awesome images.

The new Canon digital SLRs are announced but not available.  When they are available the will most likely be priced several thousand dollars more than the original D30 pricing (body was about $3,000).  They have announced four new SLR models.  Two are lower priced, two higher priced.  The highest priced is going to be around $5,000 for body alone.  That is still less than some competitive models, but more than the D30.  If you are really interested in the bells and whistles and projected prices and features and rumours...then just surf on over to the DPreview.com site and look over the Canon SLR forum.  There you will find info ad nauseum.

Finally, what makes a Pro camera is really if you can get paid for the images it produces.  If a camera captures the image you want and you can sell it...you have got it.  A "Pro" camera does not make the photographer a pro.  The sales of images do.  

Jerry, if you were taking your shots using a 30 year old Pentax K-1000 I would be no less impressed (nor more impressed either).
