Tom: I assume your print is smaller than 40 x 16. Otherwise you'll need more mat space (borders) around the image. You might check out Tyvek tape from Light Impressions for the hinge - not as messy as linen tape. Also, you might check out lucite or clear plexi instead of glass. I have everything framed in clear plexiglass. To me, the print looks better, the assemblage is lighter, and the print won't be ruined if the frame falls off the wall (I know, but I've seen it happen). One way to check is to cover half the print with glass and see how the glass affects the image. Then try the same with plexi or lucite. I pay about $15 retail for a 32x40 sheet of good clear plexi. UV blocking plexi is much more, but I don't feel the need. Museum grade picture glass is $$$$$$$. If you're going to ship the print, plexi is a no-brainer unless you want to spend a fortune on a crate. One of our local museums wanted to make a traveling exhibit of one of my exhibitions, but the crate cost would be over $3,000 for 30 framed prints. I was flattered, but said I'd have to get back with them on that. -Ken ----- Original Message ----- From: Thomas Fors To: digitalprintmaking@yahoogroups.com ; DigitalBW Sent: Monday, December 16, 2002 10:50 PM Subject: [Digital BW] 2B pencil did the trick / pricing question Thanks to everyone who made suggestions on what to sign ETFA with. A 2B pencil worked great. I'm done matting and framing it and now I have another question. I have about $80 into this and I was wondering if that seems reasonable for a 40x16 or if I can cut some costs next time around. frame 2ea 40 inches: $17.67 frame 2ea 16 inches: $ 9.23 glass 40x16 inches: $26.57 ragboard 40x32: $11.73 foamcore 40x16: $2.66 linen tape 56 inches: $2.24 ETFA paper: 432 sq inches: $4.11 2200 ink 1/4 cart est: $4.00 Total: $78.21 Thanks --Tom Please visit the Group Homepage to check the Files, Bookmarks, Polls and other resources as they are often being updated.
