Steven, Sounds like the underside of the print head may be dirty and in need of some cleaning. First you must release the print head so that you can manually move it from side to side. With the 1160 you should be able to push the cartridge change button and once the head assembly is in the cartridge loading position unplug the printer. A common way to clean the bottom of the head is to place folded paper towels, cloth or sponge cloth in the path the head travels that are wet with Windex, ammonia & water, or rubbing alcohol & water. Then manually move the head back and forth over the wet material to clean off any gunk (dried ink and paper fibers). Change the paper towel a couple of times. When you feel you have gotten it clean, then move the head to its normal parked position all the way to the right before you plug the printer back in. If you are still not getting good nozzle checks then I would try installing some Epson cartridges and doing nozzle cleaning cycles.
