According to Jon Cone, no.  It is ground-up software made by them.  
But he also said that some of the layout improvements in IP came from 
Cone, so there is bound to be some similarity.

I do not know if the Cone PiezoBW2 will be a per computer licence or 
a per printer.  The per computer really just means a hardware lock--I 
have printer with it from both my main computer and my laptop.  I 
wonder how IP5 decides what is the 'right' printer?  Couldn't you 
swap cables so the port is the same?  Otherwise they would have to 
capture a SN or similar from the printer's BIOS.

Assume nothing.  This business is a muddled mess, why should the near 
future be any different?

I, too am frustrated with the waiting to be able to make basic 
decisions.  I cannot afford to buy multiple $1500 software products 
just to re-think the whole thing in 1/2 a year.  However, consistency 
is very important to me, so I want to get the right solution and 
stick with it.  The printing gods have decreed that I must wait to 
learn my true fate.

Around the time the new Piezo software is coming out there may be an 
interesting new solution to compare it to.  Strictly rumors, so take 
that for what its worth, but one of the companies that is 'in play' 
may be doing a combo color-BW RIP with a very attractive upgrade cost 
in an attempt to get market share.  I might just be up for being used 
and manipulated by feuding RIP makers.
