I just spent a couple of hours reading through patents, and I found some interesting stuff. I won't go into any specifics about their formulas, but in general: Epson is well aware of issues such as clogging, settling, fade and colorshift, and they appear to be spending a great deal of effort in engineering their inks to solve them. Among other tests, they've conducted accelerated fade testing using a 100 kilolux xenon lamp with long and short UV capabilities and a spectrophotometer over 200 to 600 hours. They also mentioned testing for discoloration resistance for 3 hours at 40C in an ozone concentration of 200 ppm. Carbon black yellows over time. Epson has addressed this. There is a lot of crap in these inks. Reading the patents reminds me of the feeling you get when you visit a hotdog factory.
