Frank, Yep, I'm using that same version and I have 1GB of RAM. The problem happened to me using the slide carrier. I haven't tried the filmstrip carrier on this scanner yet. Lasersoft really irritates me as a company. They have one of the most unfair pricing structures I've seen, requiring essentially full-boat pricing for multiple copies of essentially the same software (for different scanners). Scanners are not that unique in their programming requirements. If they were, then how does Ed Hamrick fit support into Vuescan for every scanner under the sun into a single 1.3MB download? I resent being ripped off by elitist pricing strategies, and I doubly resent it when the product doesn't live up to its price. The digital imaging business seems to be rife with companies adopting this policy. What other group of consumers would put up with smart chips to make it difficult to use anything but grossly overpriced OEM inks (Epson), full-boat double pricing for using software on a filmscanner and a flatbed (Lasersoft), or a $500 a year fee to answer the telephone and provide access to bug fixes (Colorbyte)? Thank goodness the president of Colorbyte has come back to reality enough to relax that policy, at least for desktop printers (according to reports on this list).
