Printer manufacturers have to recover their development and production costs plus some profit from the total sales of both printers and supplies. It seems that printer prices are low and they make up the difference in the sale of carts. Since I buy Epson printers at the low price but not Epson carts, I benefiting from the everyday consumers who buy Epson chipped carts and subsidize my low printer price. Everyone who uses 3rd party inks / carts / CIS or CFS has the same benefit. We just need to be grateful to those consumers using manufactuers chipped carts who subsidize our low printer prices.
