RE: [Digital BW] For Roark:: RC Compatible Inkset (UC type) was MIS VM Inks with Roark

2003-01-24 by Paul Roark

Shilesh,

My VM 3.5 RC-compatible inkset is based mostly on MIS's UC clone inks that
only MIS has. So, it wouldn't do any good to publish the formula for that
one.

The inkset I'm most interested in for my own use is the Epson-Archival VM-S.
I have at least one more iteration of mixing before that formula is final.
If MIS opts not to mix it (soon) I might mix it myself &/or publish the
final formula.

I think MIS will get the VM 3.5 going soon, because they will be getting
calls for it. I'm sure Zeiss wants to put the mix through a series of tests
before selling any, but the UC clone inks that make up most of the mix are
MIS's. So I'd hope he has fairly thoroughly tested those.

He may also be waiting for a competitive black ink. His current matte black
crashed in my fade test. (Not bad compared to last year's inks, but this is
no longer last year.) I think he now has access to the latest high-load
matte black inks, so he may be ready to go soon.

(I might add that I would not throw away the FS/VM K yet. I'm not sure the
high-load inks are printing as well in the standard Epsons as the older
inks. I'm wondering if the viscosity needed to hold the high load of
pigments isn't pushing the older Epsons beyond their design limits. It just
seems like I see more roughness, artifacts, banding and clogs with the
high-load blacks than with the old FS/VM K.)

  Paul,

Since MIS is not yet offering this inkset, and we don't know if they
ever will, is there any chance you would share the dilution formulae?
I would be glad to try it out.

  Regards.

  Shilesh
