Apparantly most recent model Epson printers use ink cartridges with a pcb 'chip' to tabulate remaining ink, and discourage refilling/3rd party cartridges. As it turns out, the chip can be reset using a trick involving swapping in a full cartridge first, or with electronic devices expressly made for the job. Chips can also be recycled after a cartridge has been used to the end of its useful life (the foam wears out). Unchipped, empty cartiridges are cheaper than ones sold with a chip. See inksupply.com for more detailed explanations (you can also buy the relevant products there). --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "mxgo95747 <mxgo95747@y...>" <mxgo95747@y...> wrote: > In looking for an Epson Archival Black Ink for my Epson 870, I > notice the term "with chip."
