While there is something to be said for traditional prints, when it comes right down to it - it is about the image. Edward Weston could have coated toilet paper with emulsion and printed on it and it would still have been a spectacular image. The art world is full of fads and people protecting their turf. No amount of tricks - digital or chemical will make a bad image good. And a spectacular image will be spectacular - even if it is printed on with quad tone inks - or worse yet in black and white using color inks with a green shift.
