I don't find the answers are obvious or selections simple (particularly in choosing a film type), but reading through the html help and some trial-and-error will help you gain an understanding fairly quickly. Some of the controls, in particular for cropping when working with slides and negatives on my Epson 1660 flatbed, seem a bit kludgy (there is a mismatch that develops between preview and scan modes that can only be cured by restarting the program). I'm glad it has a histogram display, but making gamma etc. adjustments is not as straightforward as it is (for example) in photoshop. Would be nice to see an 'adjust curves' type of control. It does seem to extract an order of magnitude more highlight and shadow detail from an original, than the native epson scanner sw is capable of.
