I've tried a half-dozen different curves now and at least twice that many combinations of settings, and my prints all look nearly identical to one another. I think somehow the curve files aren't getting to the printer driver correctly. > > --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "murph278 <maybeck@a...>" <maybeck@a...> wrote: > > I tried it and had the same problems - I have the exact same setup as you (OSX, 1280, VM inks, etc). I couldn't get the variable tones to work and there was a lot of dithering including the blacks, so the black was not dense enough. > > > > -Murph It definitely sounds like neither one of you is getting the curves to be activated in the driver. I've looked though several possibilities and I have a hunch. In my Usage instructions under "Expert Settings 2", right above the Curve picking selection is the "Color Model" selection. It looks like some printers are using the heading "Output Mode" for the same thing. In either case, there should be a selection for "Grayscale & QuadtoneRIP" --- its absolutely necessary to pick this one. The default is "Color" and this option converts the image to RGB on output from Photoshop, so the quadtone software just passes it through which would give the results that you seem to be getting. Let me know if this works. Roy
