I've been using my S9000 (big sibling to the S900) for over a year now.. Bottom line is I love it... Especially when I use Lyson Fotonics inks and my own profiles.. The Canon canned profile for the OEM inks is crap.. Hell, it's not even a proper profile.. It says it's a CMYK monitor profile.. Find me one of those and I'll buy you lunch.. As for printing B&W with the OEM inks, it's do-able.. The best results are obtained with OEM inks IF you do Black Only printing. Unfortunately, you'll still get some metamerism then.. (and I won't even mention the fact that the black ink will shift to brown over time, AFAIK the cyan dye component/colorant in the Black is as fugitive as in the EPSON 1270/1280/1290 series) The Lyson Quad Black are better, but they suffer from metamerism as well.. The best answer for B&W with the S9000/S900 family is: Lyson Small Gamuts when available Jon Cones promised new black pigment-based hexset, designed for the Canons - how they got the pigs to stay in suspension with such a low viscosity is beyond me..
