Colour Profiles Question...

2003-03-06 by craig

I,m using the Piezography plug-in in Photoshop 7 and an Epson 1160 printer. In order to get a match between my monitor image and the print output I have, under [Colour Preferences] on profile for Greyscale, a custom dot gain curve that demonstrates a rather high arcing curve. So far no problems.

What I feel is that I have a front-end profile, via the custom dot-gain curve (how the image is displayed) being used as a back-end profile (how the on screen image is transferred to the printer).

The problem I'm not sure of how to rectify is that images which look good on the monitor (from within Photoshop) as well as the prints, look as if they need their gamma significantly increased - curves pulled up - when viewed within another image viewer on the same computer or if sent to anyone else. Previously, as a closed system for generating prints, none of this mattered.

...does anyone have the answer handy?

regards
Craig
