Digital BW, The Print

It's been a while since I've seen anything on this.
Is there a standard practice of what to set screen resolution to in the control panel/display/settings/screen area box  ??

Most set to 1024x768....curious at risks/benefits of say 1280x1024 or 1600x1200.  Curiousity arises out of 1600x1200 being a native of one of the jpeg file formats.  I realize the screen elements get smaller but that can be addressed somewhat under the appearances tab.
