One of the best scanners is the Polaroid Sprintscan 4000. At http://www.bhphotovideo.com/ it costs $500.00 

It's the older SCSI model but it does superb scans - I have one! If you are worried about the Polaroid warranty get the Mac 3 year extended for $50.00
