Re: Black Only - Epson 2100

2003-05-01 by tomoc

Hi Bruce-

I just started with my 2200 2 weeks ago.

I settled on Image Print 5.5...it is expensive but IMHO worth it
since it gives you hundreds of profiles for color and BW.

Before you go there, you might want to go through the hassle of
trying other stuff... George Lepp has free profiles on his site for
Epson 2100/2200, PictoRico has profiles for all of their papers
(these are excellent papers and excellent profiles), there is the
Epson RIP (which I have not tried and have not heard great things
about...it is $200).

The Image Print is $495 for the desktop version (missing a few
features from the full version). There is no trial copy available any
more but there is a no questions asked 30 day return for full refund
policy...the pricing is weird (to my way of thinking)it can be
networkded to an unlimited number of CPUs but used on only one
printer (dongle protected) with reduced prices for more lisences.

There is a yahoo group for Image Print:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ImagePrint/?yguid=109982305

BTW, this is NOT perfect software by any means, but it does work once
you learn how to deal with the User Interface (which is really the
primitive part)...but it is improved in this version. Probably the
best comparison is to Piezography...which is EASIER to use since it
is a PS plug-in but only works for BW and has only about 30
profiles...IP works for color, RGB BW and Grayscale BW (4 inks) and
has over 180 profiles with a committment to add for all mainstream
papers.

cheers,

Tom O'Connell

quite unhappy with the Black and White prints it produces. I have
tried Black Only printing with the standard matte black ink but find
it's more brown than black. I was wondering if there is an
alternative black ink cartridge on the market which produces a richer
black than the Epson product and if so, are there any special tricks
in producing Black only prints. Thanks in advance - Bruce
