Digital BW, The Print

I have an epson 1280 and 2200 and like the way the 2200 prints B&W's 
on matte papers but still have occasions where I need to print B&W's 
on semi-gloss paper (prefereably ilford smooth pearl).

I was thinking of setting up the 1280 with a CIS from MIS.  Has 
anyone printed neutral black and white's on non-matte papers?  
Advice?
