Nick - dyes work best on the gelatin-type papers. I was discussing this with Ernst earlier and i commented that one of the reasons I have good results with the lincoln inks is that Barcelona has a fairly high humidity (and heat!) so the gelatin papers are probably 'pre swollen' to an extent.
