Thanks. The default Epson driver uses large amounts of color inks together to create the appearance of gray. Imageprint, Epson StylusRIP and iProof PowerRIP uses mainly black and light black with only very small amounts of cyan and magenta to make neutral blacks. This removes metamerism which is mainly caused by the large amount of yellow Epson uses to simulate gray. The black and light blacks are not neutral, they are warm brown. Especially the light black. That's why some cyan and magenta is needed to cool down the tone of the print. The results with these RIP's can be very good. Imageprint is the most well known, but at $495 also the most expensive. Reports about the Epson StylysRIP have been mixed, but it sounds like good results are possible. At $200 it's much cheaper than Imageprint. iProof PowerRIP costs $299 and is easy to use, but not tested by many people for BW printing. The MIS inks are unrelated to this, they are a separate inkset with only tones of gray. Currently they are not available for the 2200. -- Daniel Staver http://daniel.staver.no
