Steve: I think you've got it right. I usually adjust nothing in the
scan, just use Vuescan with both the black and the white points set a
-0-. Only when I get the 16 bit file into Photoshop do I set the
levels. Of course, I'm sold on the Vuescan s/w.

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
