Hi Just to add to the things you can do with the older Mac... I've got an old 9500 with a G3/400 card in it. It runs 10.2.6 server fine and has an ATA133 card with 120 GB disks, USB card for a 1290 and 1160, and a 100M Ethernet card. I built it from a collection of old machines so it was pretty cheap. By choice, I'd have gone for a 8600/9600 case, since it is so much easier to open up and add RAM etc... If you were getting a machine specifically I'd look for something with a G3 in it (even a beige 266 for example) so as to be able to run 10.2.x and its CUPS printing system. You can get OSX to boot on a lot of the older machines with a utility like Xpostfacto. I've collected quite a bit of info on using older Macs (since parts of my house are filled with them :-)) and put it on the 'maclinks' section of the site below (also includes stuff on Macs<->PCs). My 9500 can drive the two Epson printers with either the Epson drivers or the Gimp print ones, and has been used to test quite a few other printers/drivers. It even allows me to use an HP K80 as an office printer from OS9 (appears as a colour postscript printer) If anyone wants any more info on the above, just let me know... bye for now Keith Cooper Northlight Images http://northlight-images.co.uk Photography - Digital Imaging - Apple Mac Consultancy Tel +44 (0)116 291 9092 Mobile +44 (0)780 162 9397
