Re: [Digital BW] Re: Printer Poll

Robert,

It is strictly a "check the box" type set up but there is a selection for
"Other Epson". When I redo it I will probably add the 870 and 890 to the
other 800 series Epsons. There doesn't seem to be large interest in the
smaller format printers but it is there.

A lot of people have cast their "votes" and as it now stands the three most
popular printers are the 1160, 1280/90 and the 2200 which comes as no
surprise. Roughly 65 - 70% of the members are using desktop printers and 6%
have wide format printers. Keep in mind there is overlap given the way the
poll is set up. This confirms my suspicion that companies like Ergosoft are
ignoring the major portion of the quad printing market in favor of a tiny
segment.

Obviously there is more cash to be generated and less work expended selling
6 copies of a $1500 - $2000 program than 70 copies of a $150-$500 program.
The "service bureau" or print foundry houses can recoup the cost of the
printers and software in a reasonably small number of jobs. So the high end
software will remain a nice niche market but not something of interest for
the majority of us here.

Martin Wesley
