I use OptiCal with a DTP92 and it's great for calibrating the monitor. It comes 
also with PreCal. But people seem to like the Spyder as well for hardware.

If you are printing with color inks, you'll probably want to use ColorSync and 
ICC profiles. If you are interested in quads/hexes with MIS, you won't need 
ColorSync, you'll need to start working with Paul Roark's curves. If you use 
Piezo, it's its own proprietary system; it's all there in the box.
