I have a framer who is used to my habits. 13x19 prints are mounted on rag
museum board, with the same as an overmat, 1/2" borders around the top and
sides, larger border on the bottom, e.g., 1 1/2". If you don't want a
window matt, there is nothing wrong with overlapping the image a little.
However, in either case, the top of the print should be positioned slightly
higher on the backing matt than the bottom, else it appears to be "falling
out" of the matt. Nielsen gallery frames, under clear plexi, not glass, and
sealed to keep the varmints out. The frame and matt is 20x24" for 13x19
paper, 16x20 for smaller sizes. I try to keep some uniformity for
exhibitions, and find that 16x20 works well even for a 6x9 print. Light
Impressions http://www.lightimpressionsdirect.com/servlet/OnlineShopping
will custom cut a matt in any size for you, and their work is good and
reasonably priced. Almost all of my work is b&w, hence white rag museum
board, but they have almost everything, and a different shade may work for
color photos. They have the frames (try the backloading gallery frames) and
quality plexi. They also have a T-square that finds the optical center,
i.e., slightly higher mounting on the back matt. Hope this helps!
