And reason is that using a single ink color just plain doesn't give the dithering algorithm enough to work with. Look, I don't know how many other people here have actually written inkjet drivers, but that's what I used to do for a living so I know whereof I speak. I've written both stochastic and ordered dithering algorithms and one thing is certain: ALL dithering algorithms represent a tradeoff between spatial and tonal (or color) resolution. To gain one you lose the other.
