We felt screening would have been pointless as we would did not have the resources or the time to check people out. The best I can do with someone like this is delete their post, cancel their membership and ban them from future membership under that e-mail address. In this case I received an automatic e-mail on 7/4 that this person, originally using the user name of "kluvsya2" had joined the group. A search of the membership list does not show that there is such a member. Membership activity shows that "kluvsya2 <kluvsya2@...>" changed their user name and e-mail to "modelkara <modelkara@...>" about 30 minutes after the spam post. There is no record of a "modelkara" in the membership lists or of them leaving the group. In part this may be due to the very slow update times of Yahoo Groups. Generally the fact that you have to join the to post messages keeps people from spamming the group address but if someone wants to join and go to the trouble of switching e-mails and user names there really isn't a much we can do to catch up with them. All in all, I think the list has been pretty spam free and there have been less than 10 such message over 2 years and 33,000 posts. Obviously as the group continues to grow we become a more attractive target but even at 3164 members it doesn't seem like it would be worth a spammer's time. Hopefully we will not see much more of this. Martin Wesley >
