>From an over-the-air piece on "NEXT@CNN" today... (it's a CNN show):
The Rochester Institute of Technology's National Center for
Remanufacturing and Resource Recovery has begun releasing data on inkjet
usage.
Salient points from their testing and report:
1) Much of the third party inks on the market meet or exceed the
quality of OEM inks..
2) there are 80 million inkjets in the US alone, with the market
growing rapidly
3) Approximately 600 million cartridges per year are currently
disposed of in the US.... (wonder what the volume those cartridges take
up in landfills is?) Of course, this will rise as the market expands..
4) OEM manufacturers currently hold 90% or more of the inkjet
consumable market.
5) Consumers have actually begun to buy new printers in place of
buying cartridges..
For anyone interested, I'm going to try and get PDF or hard copy
versions of the applicable research and report(s).
