Another use for fine art papers in desktop roll sizes is simply to avoid handfeeding. Someone using a CIS and making a few dozen prints could let the thing run for a while. Cutting them may be more efficient and offer more format choices than having to sit there feeding individual sheets. Clog-resistance is, of course, required, but not impossible to achieve in a single run.
