Digital BW, The Print

After reading many articles on printing Black Only, i tried the 
process on a 1270 using the original epson black cartridge.  I was 
not impressed.  One of the articles that i read suggested using MIS 
quad tone black cartridge.  I have installed this MIS cartridge and 
left the epson color cart in place.  I am now getting micro banding, 
assuming that this is what it is..multiple thin lines running 
parralel along both left and right edges of the print.  I didnt get 
this with the epson black cart.... Any suggestions, any hints, any 
discussion would be most helpful
