I think Steven Johnson bought one or the IR version, which could be filtered to act like regular Pan film. Let's face it, all solid state sensors are monochomatic and hyper sensitive to red and Infrared. Even though it's less work to make the hardware, the software support would be different and unpopular. Medium format Tech Pan and scans is a fine alternative indeed to landscape shooters although it would be more economical to shoot 4x5 film and scan with an Epson 3200 or the new Canon equivalent with their FARE technology for dust and grain reduction.
