Helene,

>... are UltraSmooth/Scrapbook/PremierArt Hot Press the same paper?

The paper Epson gave to beta testers with the "UltraSmooth" name appears to
be the same paper as the PremierArt paper. Actually, the catalog I have for
the PremierArt paper does not use the "Hot Press" name. The
www.PhotoWarehouse.biz catalog and sample papers are just labeled
"PremierArt Fine Art," with the weight differences noted. I think the "Hot
Press" name is a new one. See
http://www.premierimagingproducts.com/media/index.html

Epson is using the "PremierArt" name on it's web page now. It calls the
paper "PremierArt Scrapbook Photo Paper." Epson is not using the
"UltraSmooth" name with the paper any more. See

(Remember to cut and past the wrapped text onto the end of the URL.)

I have beta UltraSmooth -- 2 versions, roll and sheets -- and samples of
PremierArt. They print the same. The minor differences between the
UltraSmooth samples are at least as much as the differences between the
UltraSmooth and PremierArt paper and could are probably just production run
or base thickness differences.

The Epson pro media head told me they were the same paper, but different
sizes.

At first PremierArt was using the "UltraSmooth" name, but this stopped
because, apparently, that is an Epson TM.

I think Wilhelm has also used the names together.

So, I conclude the beta "UltraSmooth" and PremierArt papers are the same.

It is possible Epson has found a better formulation and is reserving the
"UltraSmooth" name for yet another paper. There are 2 things I think need
improvement with the beta "UltraSmooth" and PremierArt papers: The dmax
could be better, and the shadow tones print too cold. The Permajet ISC beta
paper beats the PremierArt paper on both counts (and also does not flake).
So it can be done with existing technology.
