Digital BW, The Print

Is the Epson 2200 any good for making high quality B&W prints?
I see alot here about the 1280.  Is this because the 1280 is a better printer for 
B&W?
I am also seeing some info here regarding other Inks.  What is this about and 
where can they be obtained?
Sorry about my ignorance but i am new to the digital age here and have never 
been able to get the computer or printer settings write for good images.
Thus i just go back to the old method of the dark room.
Please, can some one help me here?
