Brad,
You could start by reading the information you can find on the MIS site,
http://www.inksupply.com/index.cfm?source=html/quadtone.html and the
Piezography site, http://www.piezography.com/piezographyBW.html. They are
the main suppliers with two different BW setups. The 1290 and 1280 are
basically the same printer, the main difference being the voltage.

PS. With careful choice of equipment and technique you can achieve better
print quality with digital quadtone printing than in the darkroom. At least
that applies to myself. :)
