Daniel This might help: You can take a meter reading with your lens set at a wider aperture, and the film speed set at a faster speed, than you intend to use. If the meter indicates 1 sec at f1.4 for 400 iso film, you should get a correct exposure at 16 sec at f2.8 with 100 iso film. If you don't see why, let me know off-list and I'll try to explain.
