Paul; Actually there is: go into quick-mask mode before applying the gradient; when you hqave it right, and exit, the gardient becomes a selection, click on layers button and choose curves, & your gradient is now a layer. If you wnat more precise control you can re-select (from the selection menu) invert the selection, and have a second layer controlling the balance of your image Steve Karafyllakis
