Kees, >The MIS VM and UT quad sets have two greys: dark (C position) and >light(M position). The hex inksets three: dark (C position), medium >(LC position), light (Y position). I would like to know if the dark >and light greys are identical between the two sets. The medium grey in >the hex set being an intermediate grey. Am I correct? Yes, the dark and light grays are the same between the hextone and quadtone versions of the inksets. (Of course, the inks in the UT inkset are different than those in the VM inkset, although the densities are approximately the same.) >For printing digital negatives using the ultratones and QTR I was >thinking of putting all three greys in my 1160. You'll need different curves to smooth the tones. The 3-gray setup would not, for example, be the same as the Piezo/FS setup. The cyan is the same density, but the VM/UT medium and light grays are darker than the Piezo/FS medium and light grays. >I allready have the black(s) and two greys from the UT quad set. >So what grey is missing, or are they different? The light cyan is the one that is missing. >Are the three greys in the UT hex set 75%-50%-25% dilutions like the >ones MIS is putting in their new 2200 Bowhouse/QTR cartridges? Be aware that MIS uses "75%-50%-25%" as relative designations. Those are not the true dilutions. I'm not sure what MIS is doing, but I'd assume the "75%" is the UT cyan, the "50%" is the UT light cyan, and the "25%" the UT hex yellow/quad magenta.
