Re: [Digital BW] PhotoKit sharpener

2003-11-16 by Carl Schofield

I've been using PK Sharpener (new 16 bit version) with Photoshop CS for
my digital images (from a 6 mp Canon 10D) and it works just fine. The
only problem with using it for B&W scanned images (particularly high
resolution scans) is that you must convert the files to RGB mode to use
PK Sharpener and that move, together with the layers that are employed
during the sharpening process quickly leads to an extremely large file
size. This might not be a serious problem if you have a lot of
computer horsepower or your initial file size isn't too big (probably
true for 35mm), but now that I'm going to be working with the 4x5
format it is an issue dealing with files that can approach 1 gb in size
with the PK Sharpener workflow. Aside from this limitation, the
quality of the process is very good with logical and flexible controls.
