The World is Not Black & White Part 2

2001-10-08 by Steadman Uhlich

OK, this is off topic. And it is not aimed at slamming anyone, any religion, any ethnicity. It is also not intended to start a political or theological debate.

I simply thought you folks would appreciate a different point of view. If it bothers you, just ignore it or skip it.

------------------------------------

Just finished a dinner party with 25 people over at my house. The guest of honor was a friend who is an Air Force Captain, Intelligence Officer, and fluent in Arabic. He has just returned from a month in Jordan on a refresher course in Arabic dialects.

He said he was on the internet writing his wife on Sept 11 when the planes struck.

His first impression was shock. Next he went from the internet cafe to walk...and saw young women (palestinians) celebrating in the streets...the blow to the US.

On the whole, he said the Jordanians were very shocked by the disaster. Most were sympathetic to the US and many people on the street came up to him to express their sympathy.

He also said as he read the news (in Arabic) and listened/watched the leading Arab mass media (TV/Radio) that he was surprised at the "point of view" of many of the leading news sources in the Arab world. For example: he read/heard that there were assertions that "all the Jews were out of the building when it was struck" and that "the Jews somehow engineered this."

I asked him if the people he spoke with believed that Bin Laden had done it. He said that most did not believe him capable of it...

It is almost beyond belief that there can be such disparate points of view on this.
